Located near the border with Argentina in the Coyhaique area, Estancia del Zorro together with its sister property, Cinco Rios Lodge, offers anglers incredible and diverse fly fishing opportunities in both Chile and Argentina.
Set on 15,000 acres, the family-run Estancia del Zorro allows guests to explore mountains, canyons, and fish for large brown trout on two private rivers and 15-mile long spring creek located within the Estancia’s boundaries. Clients can enjoy the gaucho-experience on horseback, including a range of non-angling activities suitable for non-anglers and families such as viewing Andean Condor nesting sites, sheep herding, hikes, kayaking, float trips and the ability to land trout from both Argentina and Chile in the same day.
Multi lodge itineraries are also available, allowing you to fish a very diverse selection of blue-ribbon rivers, stream, spring creeks and lakes with a very experienced and professional guide team, while extended itineraries can also include food and wine experiences in the Santiago and Valparaiso regions.
Estancia Del Zorro is a 15,000-acre sheep station that has some of the best spring creek fishing in the country. The Estancia itself will provide a real glimpse of Chilean life in the Andes. Twenty-three miles from the city of Coyhaique, it is close to the borders with Argentina. Del Zorro is not only a working ranch but a fully-serviced fishing lodge. Recently refurbished, the lodge can accommodate up to twelve anglers per week and all the rooms are large twins with air conditioning, en-suite facilities and plenty of room for fishing gear, equipment, and storage. Each room has its own private balcony from where you can appreciate the vast wilderness that surrounds you.
There is a large lounge and dining-room known as the ‘Great Room’ which is the hub of the lodge. This is where you meet and take all meals. The food is as you would expect, ‘ranch-style’, with some fantastic steaks and wonderful Chilean wine: fishing combined with an authentic Chilean experience.
For non-anglers, there is a fantastic array of bird-life to observe including rare Andean Condors as well as stunning countryside. Plus, the local city can be explored with its weekly market. The lodge can also arrange a tour of the area and also horse-back riding. There are trails to run and excellent walks, hiking and campout trips.
There is no internet WIFI connection at the Estancia Del Zorro.
Del Zorro has access to two completely private rivers, plus fifteen miles of spring-fed streams holding Brown Trout up to about 10 lbs. All the streams are within the boundaries of the Estancia Del Zorro and are private. Apart from your guide and fellow anglers, you will be on your own in a beautiful wilderness. Combine this wild Brown Trout fishing with a trip across into Argentina to fish for Rainbow Trout on a nearby Argentine estancia. This is private wilderness fishing reminiscent of New Zealand twenty years ago.
The fishing from the lodge is typically a forty-minute drive by 4WD truck to most areas, with some walking and wading and the use of inflatables. Most of the fishing is wading through rivers and spring streams many of which have never been fished. Offering exciting dry fly fishing and site fishing in pristine crystal clear waters where fish can reach up to thirty-two inches.
From Del Zorro, it is also possible to float the legendary Simpson River which is about an hour’s drive from the lodge.
All the guides are seasoned professionals, bi-lingual with good English and they know the local rivers very well.
There is a limited supply of tackle that can be borrowed from the lodge; however, we would suggest that all anglers take their own gear and equipment or if wishing to travel light check with the lodge to ensure they have what you need.
Some of the finest River Trout fishing in the world with the Andes as a backdrop and wilderness all around you.

Our knowledge of travel logistics saves you time, and our highly experienced team is here to ensure it’s spent on the water and not at the desk or on a long flight connection that you didn’t require. Since 2006 we have developed a valued client-base that has travelled to all corners of the globe.
We are a fully-accredited travel agency, where all of our flights, accommodation and associated travel bookings are done in-house, which means that you pay less. We have access to a huge range of specials, deals, great volume pricing, and excellent currency exchange rates which allows us to pass these benefits directly onto you.
On the fishing front, our extensive expertise and experience around prime seasons, species, moon-phases, tides, and personalised customer service is centred around one principal – preparation. This includes detailed gear and equipment lists, the fly patterns, transfer details, up-to date fishing reports and some of the finer aspects that can often be overlooked.
We travel extensively and understand that your free-time is important. Just as we all understand from experience, that the key to a successful trip is pre-trip preparation.
Our highly experienced team has fly fished the world for the last 25 years, and we understand the considerations and gear needed to turn a good fly fishing trip into a great one.
