We first visited Hideaway Resort and Spa in 2011 and instigated a fly fishing program at the island. This location provided many of our clients with their first GT capture which was a massive bonus as this resort combines beautifully for a family holiday with a bit of fishing thrown in. We have explored much of the Maldives since this first visit but never found the quality of fly fishing that was to be had at Hideaway. In 2016 the resort shut for a refurbishment and in early 2019 we finally made it back to the island to see the new changes. They are impressive with a wider range of accommodation including some spectacular water villas. The family villas and the Palace have always been spectacular and offer private retreat ideal for family holidays or gatherings.
While on the island we fished many of the areas we had previously as well as explored some more. We encountered plenty of GT’s, bluefin trevally triggerfish and bonefish on the flats as well as getting shots at permit most days. We will return later this year to continue to expand our knowledge of the area and train up local guide Ali who does an amazing job at spotting fish.
