Our Fly Fishing Experience days are a terrific introduction to fly fishing and suitable for either complete beginners who would like to try out something new or if you have already had some experience but would like a deeper understanding of fly fishing, casting and the equipment used.
Our fishing venue is located around an hour’s drive from London on the edge of Hampshire at private lakes unavailable to the general public offering privacy, seclusion and a quiet environment to discover the joy of fly fishing.
We meet at The White Hart Inn located in the beautiful village of South Harting for breakfast allowing us the opportunity to discover individually what you would like to get out of the day and then the rest of the day is structured according to your own specific needs.
There follows a talk on the various rods, lines and equipment used which helps you to understand what you should be using and why. We encourage everyone to participate and please ask anything that you would like on fly fishing. There are always some amusing things that come up and we very much want you to enjoy yourself.
The lakes are a five minute drive away and casting tuition begins with the overhead cast and roll casting the fly line onto the water. For those who have fished already we can polish up your casting and show you some new techniques for casting further and into tight spots.
The remainder of the morning is spent practicing your casting and once you feel happy and confident you can spread around the three lakes and catch fish. You’ll be taught how to safely catch, play and land your fish.
At 1 pm we head back to the White Hart for a well earned rest and lunch.

In the afternoon we explore the trout’s dining habits and the flies that they are after. Why and when certain flies will catch you fish and why some won’t. We show you some basic fly tying patterns and the equipment used and you can try your hand at fly tying.
The remainder of the day is spent fishing with some time spent on your own (don’t worry, we’ll be within helping distance) to enjoy the experience, put everything into practise and have some time out from the stresses of everyday life.
The three lakes all offer varying degrees of difficulty so there are plenty of options for everyone. Our top lake is usually clear and a dry fly only lake. It can be useful as an introduction to stalking techniques and presenting a dry fly for those of you who would like to progress to river fishing and learn presentation casts with good line control.
Fly Odyssey’s Gilly Bate will be running the day along with another qualified instructor and their aim is to provide you with an enjoyable experience within a safe and friendly atmosphere. By the end of the day you should feel confident about going fly fishing with a good understanding of the casts and the equipment.
We can also arrange overnight accommodation at The White Hart Inn and fishing may be arranged for the following day with a choice of venues on either lake or river.
We use premium Sage rods and reels with Rio fly lines and all fishing equipment for the day are included and you may take four fish home.
Soft drinks and snacks are supplied lakeside throughout the day with breakfast and Lunch provided by The White Hart Inn.
Cost: £175 per person. Dates: Friday 5th May and Friday 9th June 2017.
