Fly Fishing Varzina River, Russia – 2016 season update

The Varzina River on the North Kola Peninsula is one of the great atlantic salmon rivers of the world. For the 2016 season the lodge was downsized to accommodate only 6 anglers per week with a personal guide and single room. The feedback we are getting from our clients is that the operation is great and the early season weeks produced plenty of big fish with a 34lb plus monster to client Roger Bignell. We are currently taking bookings for the 2017 season as space will sell out quickly. Please check the HOSTED TRIPS on the blog page for further details.

Dear Kevin,

Thanks for your time today to gossip over the wonderful week I had on Varzina. It is truly a beautiful river and to have 10 fish in the week with a range from 72 cm to 116cm was a truly great week The largest at 29 lbs and also a 24 lbs fish was the icing on the cake as well a truly great finishing day with the 4 fish and two in the last 30 mins No one could have written such a great memory.

Also Sean’s help was invaluable!! Not to say that my guide, ( “Mr Gorilla” ) could not have been more helpful with a lovely sense of humour and apart from fits of giggling on my part we managed to land a good weeks fish as well as the two big boys.

As I mentioned on the phone the icing on the cake was to return to the lodge and be treated by cooking which would make Le Manoir look like little chef motorway cafe!! To achieve this level of cuisine 800 odd mile away from anywhere and to bring up new dishes every day need to give these two young men an accolade and medal above the call of duty

THANK YOU once again for finding a spot for me on that first week not only with a small group of convivial people  supported by Sean but then to find us 10 great fish in an idyllically beautiful river then to cap it all with a cuisine to die for WHAT more could you ask for? (apart from let’s hope next year could equal it and even better it, quite an ask I am afraid!!)

Let’s hope we could have a drink or supper one time when Sean and your selfs are in town and let’s hope it may coincide with a time I am up there too.

Kindest Regards

Richard
