Grand Slam Fly Fishing lodge is one of the best-appointed lodges in the Ascension Bay region, located on a private sandy beach in Punta Allen with comfortable large rooms, swimming pool, and professional guide team.
It’s a great destination for couples, small groups or families looking to do some fly fishing while on holidays to good numbers of Permit, Bonefish, Jacks, Juvenile Tarpon and Snook all available.
Situated around an hour by private boat ride from Tulum, the lodge provides consistently good hospitality, fresh seasonal produce and great wildlife interactions in a relaxed and peaceful setting. Seasonally it fishes well throughout the year with Bluewater fly fishing options also available.
Located beachfront in the small fishing village of Punta Allen, Grand Slam Lodge is about one hundred and sixty kilometers south of Cancun in the protected UNSECO world eco biosphere of Sian Ka’an. The Lodge consists of six contemporary beach front villas with en-suite, flat screen televisions, great views and private balcony. Rod racks are available out the front of each room, with rooms serviced daily and include mini-bar, Wi-Fi and a docking station.
The restaurant serves fine meals sourced from local produce, and provides packed lunches for your journey to the flats each day. Dining areas are located indoors with outdoor lounge area with ocean views to relax in and socialise at the end of the day.
The lodge also has a well-stocked bar where you can enjoy local beverages and a range of spirits or cocktails on offer throughout the afternoon and evening. The lodge facilities include a swimming pool or you can also swim in the sea, enjoy the library, hammocks and fly-tying station.
For the non-fisher, activities can be arranged with your hosts to include guided eco tours in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a visit to Punta Allen, snorkeling or simply relaxing by the pool.
Perfectly situated on your own private beach overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Grand Slam Lodge is located just to the north of Ascension Bay, with quick boat access to the region widely known as the Grand Slam Capital of the world.
Throughout the year, the fishery provides fly fishermen with access to a vast system of flats and, Bluewater and mangrove systems which provide a great habitat for Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon and a range of other species including Jacks, Snapper, Snook and Barracuda.
Sight-casting to juvenile Tarpon in the 20-40lb range, and Bonefish from 2-6lb’s typically provide excellent sport while the numbers of Permit are prolific in the 10-20lb bracket which are a great challenge on fly on a catch and release basis.
Your fly fishing day is flexible with the ability to stay on the water all day or arrange for a siesta period around lunchtime to relax and reset before hitting the flats again in the afternoon. Your hosts are more than accommodating, providing an excellent personalised service for both you and your partner while there, and nothing is too difficult for them to manage which see’s clients returning year on year.
The local Panga boats used provide a comfortable ride with large casting deck area, and the guide team are experienced and attentive with well-maintained engines and safety gear on board.
As per all Fly Odyssey bookings, you will be provided with a comprehensive and detailed pre-trip fly fishing guide, prior to your departure.
Transfer between Cancun and the lodge is between 3 and four hours which includes a private pick-up from your Hotel direct to Tulum. There you will board a boat for your 60-minute transfer to the lodge.
A passport with minimum six months validity is required.Transportation to and from the Tulum is provided in comfortable, private air-conditioned vans.
